World Environment Day-2023 seminar held at IUBAT

A Seminar focusing on the solution to plastic pollution held on 7th June, 2023. All the speakers of this seminar indicated how plastic pollution polluting natural ecosystem and human food chain. The speakers also emphasized that people has to become more aware of plastic pollution and act properly.

There was also an extensive discussion of how IUBAT is moving forward for sustainability issues through course curriculum and community engagement by Dr. MRDastagir, Dr. Ferdous Ahmed, Dr. Sayma Akhter, Dr. Shafiqul Islam faculty members ofDepartment of Environmental Science. The speakers showcased plastic recycling process at IUBAT and a baseline study on change in sustainability attitudes of undergrad students through ENV 103: Environmental Science and Sustainability courses.

In this seminar, there were three guests from UNESCO, UNDP and Jahagairnagar University.

Dr Susan Vize, Officer in charge, Dhaka was the chief guest of this ceremony. Prof Jamal Uddin, Chairman of the Environmental Science from Jahagirnagar University was the Keynote Speaker  andArif Mohammad Faisal, Program Specialist, from UNDP; Dhaka was the guest of honor. The Keynote speaker mentioned that mentioned that at present nearly 50% plastic waste is recycled in Dhaka old town and he also discussed the country’s government action on plastic use minimization.

Beside them, Vice Chancellor of IUBAT, Prof DrAbrurRab and Treasurer Prof Selina Nargis also delivered their speech. In addition, DrRehanDastagir delivered his welcome speech.  Finally, the seminar ended with a vote of thanks delivered by DrRimana Islam Papry.

Before the seminar, there was also a short exhibition where students showed their projects to beat plastic pollution through recycling of plastic wastes.
